An air ambulance from India has crash-landed en route to Bangkok, killing the pilot and injuring two doctors of Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital.
The plane was carrying five people and it caught fire before crash-landing near Bangkok, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted on Monday.
Swaraj said pilot Arunaksha Nandy died in the incident on Sunday even as two doctors were seriously injured and admitted to an intensive care unit in a Bangkok hospital.
A nurse and another pilot too were reportedly on the flight.
The doctors injured in the accident are from the departments of emergency and anaesthesia.
“Yes, they (the doctors) have had burn injuries in the accident, but fortunately the injuries are not life-threatening,” said a hospital source, requesting anonymity.
A separate team of doctors from Medanta left for Thailand later on Sunday to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
“They will help in transferring the injured from local hospital to a proper health facility,” said the source.
The aircraft, Pilatus PC 12 (VT-AVG), belonged to Delhi-based charter company, Air Charter Services.
It had taken off from Delhi at 8.42am on Sunday. It then took a refuelling stop in Kolkata en route to Bangkok and crash-landed at Nakhon Pathom airport, about 730km from Bangkok, late Sunday afternoon.

Hi, I'm an engineer and I make robots.Home INDIA Now, of course you all know what a robot is, right? If you don't, you'd probably go to Google, and you'd ask Google what a robot is. So let's do that. We'll go to Google and this is what we get. Now, you can see here there are lots of different types of robots, but they're predominantly humanoid in structure. And they look pretty conventional because they've got plastic, they've got metal, they've got motors and gears and so on. Some of them look quite friendly, and you could go up and you could hug them. Some of them not so friendly, they look like they're straight out of "Terminator," in fact they may well be straight out of "Terminator." You can do lots of really cool things with these robots -- you can do really exciting stuff.
0:55But I'd like to look at different kinds of robots -- I want to make different kinds of robots. And I take inspiration from the things that don't look like us, but look like these. So these are natural biological organisms and they do some really cool things that we can't, and current robots can't either. They do all sorts of great things like moving around on the floor; they go into our gardens and they eat our crops;they climb trees; they go in water, they come out of water; they trap insects and digest them. So they do really interesting things. They live, they breathe, they die, they eat things from the environment. Our current robots don't really do that. Now, wouldn't it be great if you could use some of those characteristics in future robots so that you could solve some really interesting problems? I'm going to look at a couple of problems now in the environment where we can use the skills and the technologiesderived from these animals and from the plants, and we can use them to solve those problems.
1:53Let's have a look at two environmental problems. They're both of our making -- this is man interacting with the environment and doing some rather unpleasant things. The first one is to do with the pressure of population. Such is the pressure of population around the world that agriculture and farming is required to produce more and more crops. Now, to do that, farmers put more and more chemicals onto the land.They put on fertilizers, nitrates, pesticides -- all sorts of things that encourage the growth of the crops,but there are some negative impacts. One of the negative impacts is if you put lots of fertilizer on the land, not all of it goes into the crops. Lots of it stays in the soil, and then when it rains, these chemicals go into the water table. And in the water table, then they go into streams, into lakes, into rivers and into the sea. Now, if you put all of these chemicals, these nitrates, into those kinds of environments, there are organisms in those environments that will be affected by that -- algae, for example. Algae loves nitrates, it loves fertilizer, so it will take in all these chemicals, and if the conditions are right, it will mass produce.It will produce masses and masses of new algae. That's called a bloom. The trouble is that when algae reproduces like this, it starves the water of oxygen. As soon as you do that, the other organisms in the water can't survive. So, what do we do? We try to produce a robot that will eat the algae, consume it and make it safe.
3:25So that's the first problem. The second problem is also of our making, and it's to do with oil pollution.Now, oil comes out of the engines that we use, the boats that we use. Sometimes tankers flush their oil tanks into the sea, so oil is released into the sea that way. Wouldn't it be nice if we could treat that in some way using robots that could eat the pollution the oil fields have produced? So that's what we do.We make robots that will eat pollution.
3:54To actually make the robot, we take inspiration from two organisms. On the right there you see the basking shark. The basking shark is a massive shark. It's noncarnivorous, so you can swim with it, as you can see. And the basking shark opens its mouth, and it swims through the water, collecting plankton. As it does that, it digests the food, and then it uses that energy in its body to keep moving. So, could we make a robot like that -- like the basking shark that chugs through the water and eats up pollution? Well, let's see if we can do that. But also, we take the inspiration from other organisms. I've got a picture here of a water boatman, and the water boatman is really cute. When it's swimming in the water, it uses its paddle-like legs to push itself forward.
4:40So we take those two organisms and we combine them together to make a new kind of robot. In fact, because we're using the water boatman as inspiration, and our robot sits on top of the water, and it rows,we call it the "Row-bot." So a Row-bot is a robot that rows. OK. So what does it look like? Here's some pictures of the Row-bot, and you'll see, it doesn't look anything like the robots we saw right at the beginning. Google is wrong; robots don't look like that, they look like this.
5:12So I've got the Row-bot here. I'll just hold it up for you. It gives you a sense of the scale, and it doesn't look anything like the others. OK, so it's made out of plastic, and we'll have a look now at the components that make up the Row-bot -- what makes it really special.
5:26The Row-bot is made up of three parts, and those three parts are really like the parts of any organism. It's got a brain, it's got a body and it's got a stomach. It needs the stomach to create the energy. Any Row-bot will have those three components, and any organism will have those three components, so let's go through them one at a time. It has a body, and its body is made out of plastic, and it sits on top of the water. And it's got flippers on the side here -- paddles that help it move, just like the water boatman. It's got a plastic body, but it's got a soft rubber mouth here, and a mouth here — it's got two mouths. Why does it have two mouths? One is to let the food go in and the other is to let the food go out. So you can see really it's got a mouth and a derriere, or a --
6:16something where the stuff comes out, which is just like a real organism. So it's starting to look like that basking shark. So that's the body.
6:24The second component might be the stomach. We need to get the energy into the robot and we need to treat the pollution, so the pollution goes in, and it will do something. It's got a cell in the middle here called a microbial fuel cell. I'll put this down, and I'll lift up the fuel cell. Here. So instead of having batteries, instead of having a conventional power system, it's got one of these. This is its stomach. And it really is a stomach because you can put energy in this side in the form of pollution, and it creates electricity.
6:54So what is it? It's called a microbial fuel cell. It's a little bit like a chemical fuel cell, which you might have come across in school, or you might've seen in the news. Chemical fuel cells take hydrogen and oxygen,and they can combine them together and you get electricity. That's well-established technology; it was in the Apollo space missions. That's from 40, 50 years ago. This is slightly newer. This is a microbial fuel cell. It's the same principle: it's got oxygen on one side, but instead of having hydrogen on the other, it's got some soup, and inside that soup there are living microbes. Now, if you take some organic material --could be some waste products, some food, maybe a bit of your sandwich -- you put it in there, the microbes will eat that food, and they will turn it into electricity. Not only that, but if you select the right kind of microbes, you can use the microbial fuel cell to treat some of the pollution. If you choose the right microbes, the microbes will eat the algae. If you use other kinds of microbes, they will eat petroleum spirits and crude oil. So you can see how this stomach could be used to not only treat the pollution but also to generate electricity from the pollution. So the robot will move through the environment, taking food into its stomach, digest the food, create electricity, use that electricity to move through the environment and keep doing this.
8:16OK, so let's see what happens when we run the Row-bot -- when it does some rowing. Here we've got a couple of videos, the first thing you'll see — hopefully you can see here is the mouth open. The front mouth and the bottom mouth open, and it will stay opened enough, then the robot will start to row forward. It moves through the water so that food goes in as the waste products go out. Once it's moved enough, it stops and then it closes the mouth -- slowly closes the mouths -- and then it will sit there, and it will digest the food.
8:49Of course these microbial fuel cells, they contain microbes. What you really want is lots of energy coming out of those microbes as quickly as possible. But we can't force the microbes and they generate a small amount of electricity per second. They generate milliwatts, or microwatts. Let's put that into context. Your mobile phone for example, one of these modern ones, if you use it, it takes about one watt. So that's a thousand or a million times as much energy that that uses compared to the microbial fuel cell. How can we cope with that? Well, when the Row-bot has done its digestion, when it's taken the food in, it will sit there and it will wait until it has consumed all that food. That could take some hours, it could take some days. A typical cycle for the Row-bot looks like this: you open your mouth, you move, you close your mouth and you sit there for a while waiting. Once you digest your food, then you can go about doing the same thing again. But you know what, that looks like a real organism, doesn't it? It looks like the kind of thing we do. Saturday night, we go out, open our mouths, fill our stomachs, sit in front of the telly and digest. When we've had enough, we do the same thing again.
9:59OK, if we're lucky with this cycle, at the end of the cycle we'll have enough energy left over for us to be able to do something else. We could send a message, for example. We could send a message saying,"This is how much pollution I've eaten recently," or, "This is the kind of stuff that I've encountered," or, "This is where I am." That ability to send a message saying, "This is where I am," is really, really important. If you think about the oil slicks that we saw before, or those massive algal blooms, what you really want to do is put your Row-bot out there, and it eats up all of those pollutions, and then you have to go collect them. Why? Because these Row-bots at the moment, this Row-bot I've got here, it contains motors, it contains wires, it contains components which themselves are not biodegradable. Current Row-bots contain things like toxic batteries. You can't leave those in the environment, so you need to track them, and then when they've finished their job of work, you need to collect them. That limits the number of Row-bots you can use. If, on the other hand, you have robot a little bit like a biological organism, when it comes to the end of its life, it dies and it degrades to nothing.
11:06So wouldn't it be nice if these robots, instead of being like this, made out of plastic, were made out of other materials, which when you throw them out there, they biodegrade to nothing? That changes the way in which we use robots. Instead of putting 10 or 100 out into the environment, having to track them,and then when they die, collect them, you could put a thousand, a million, a billion robots into the environment. Just spread them around. You know that at the end of their lives, they're going to degrade to nothing. You don't need to worry about them. So that changes the way in which you think about robotsand the way you deploy them.
11:40Then the question is: Can you do this? Well, yes, we have shown that you can do this. You can make robots which are biodegradable. What's really interesting is you can use household materials to make these biodegradable robots. I'll show you some; you might be surprised. You can make a robot out of jelly. Instead of having a motor, which we have at the moment, you can make things called artificial muscles. Artificial muscles are smart materials, you apply electricity to them, and they contract, or they bend or they twist. They look like real muscles. So instead of having a motor, you have these artificial muscles. And you can make artificial muscles out of jelly. If you take some jelly and some salts, and do a bit of jiggery-pokery, you can make an artificial muscle.
12:21We've also shown you can make the microbial fuel cell's stomach out of paper. So you could make the whole robot out of biodegradable materials. You throw them out there, and they degrade to nothing.
12:34Well, this is really, really exciting. It's going to totally change the way in which we think about robots, but also it allows you to be really creative in the way in which you think about what you can do with these robots. I'll give you an example. If you can use jelly to make a robot -- now, we eat jelly, right? So, why not make something like this? A robot gummy bear. Here, I've got some I prepared earlier. There we go. I've got a packet -- and I've got a lemon-flavored one. I'll take this gummy bear — he's not robotic, OK?We have to pretend. And what you do with one of these is you put it in your mouth -- the lemon's quite nice. Try not to chew it too much, it's a robot, it may not like it. And then you swallow it. And then it goes into your stomach. And when it's inside your stomach, it moves, it thinks, it twists, it bends, it does something. It could go further down into your intestines, find out whether you've got some ulcer or cancer, maybe do an injection, something like that. You know that once it's done its job of work, it could be consumed by your stomach, or if you don't want that, it could go straight through you, into the toilet,and be degraded safely in the environment. So this changes the way, again, in which we think about robots.
13:49So, we started off looking at robots that would eat pollution, and then we're looking at robots which we can eat. I hope this gives you some idea of the kinds of things we can do with future robots.
Scrum Master & Product Owner- An Overview
Scrum is infamous and widely used responsive software development structure. This method recognizes three different roles: the product owner who has the vision for the product; the scrum master who helps the team to build the product in the best way possible; and the team of engineers who create the product.
There are a lot of issues with the creation and development of the product, and at the top hierarchies, it gets difficult if the roles and responsibilities are not properly defined. That is why it is very important to classify the job of the product owner and the scrum master.
She/he is the person responsible for making a group live by qualities and practices of Scrum. He is regularly viewed as a trainer for the group, helping the group to reach its targets and do the job efficiently and effectively. He is also seen as a process owner for the group, creating a balance with the project's key stakeholders.
Responsibilities of a Scrum Master
His job responsibilities include the following:
Removing any obstructions that hinder the growth or development of the project,
Effectively working alongside with the product owner to ensure the product backlog is in good shape and ready for the next sprint.
To strike a good balance between the team and the product owner.
Ensuring that the team of developers/engineers don't over-commit themselves to what they can’t achieve if the product owner is over achieving or has unachievable targets.
Make sure the group is fully productive and improving on quality and functionality.
Responsible for helping the group deliver the required work to the Product Owner on time and within the given parameters and instructions
Make sure the group has achievable targets and simultaneously the work doesn’t get delayed or off track.
Oversee that the team can meet its commitments and helps removes any impediments they are facing, any blockers that they cannot remove themselves, including Managing dependencies
Facilitates process and meetings (e.g., Stand Ups, Planning, Reviews, Estimation, Scheduling, and Prioritization)
Responsible for reporting progress, including delivering standard outward- facing artifacts
Manages Product Owners desires of the product and from the team
Shields group from distractions and interferences (including or against the Product Owner)
Enables close cooperation between overall roles and functions
He usually is an experienced person either a former project manager or a technical team leader with a strong background of relevant work exposure. He can also be seen as a defender of the group.
Scrum Master’s Role
A Scrum master’s role is not an easy task; one should know where to draw the line at the same time not forgetting the work expected from them. Many new appointees at the Scrum Master role struggle to know and oblige with the roles the job entails. They get confused as to who is a scrum master, a leader or a worker. Actually to be precise he is none, he is a manager in a lay man’s term. His job responsibilities are many but to simplify the role he is a manager of the work force and supervise their work. He does not own the team and cannot assign roles to them as it falls out of his work rights, but then again he can act as a trainer to the group and make them achieve their highest potential.
A good scrum master makes a good balance of casual and professional bond with the taskforces much so that he can advice and strictly be heard by the team for their good. A mutual trust between the scrum master and his subordinates is a must for good working. He/ She can inspire and motivate them to be better at their job and give them guidelines and tricks of the trade to be better at their job.
Their authority is many times limited by the product owner to ensuring that group takes action after the procedure, the ScrumMaster's role can be more troublesome than that of a typical project manager. Project manager often has the last resort of saying "do it because I say so." But there are times when a Scrum Master cannot or is not allowed to have such a command of the team.
Then again, a person who is dedicated and cares for his team and is good at his work knows how to get his work done within the given means one can always develop a strong bond of trust where his juniors respect and listen to his advice as they know it is for their benefit and there are no ego clashes at the workplace.
A Scrum product Owner is typically a project's key functionary. It is the vision of the product owner which creates this bubble. It is the duty of the owner to pass on his dream and mission in its entirety to the Scrum Manager and the team. This is one of the keys to effectively begin any agile software development project. Product Owner is usually the lead user of the system or somebody from marketing, anyone with a solid understanding of users, product management, the marketplace, competition and of future trends for domain or type of system being developed.
This differs tremendously based on whether the group is creating business Software, or software for inside utilizing, or equipment or any other kind of product. The fact is that the individual in the product owner’s role needs to be a visionary with a viable dream and a few management skills, rest can be managed and supported by a Scrum Manager, and the work floor activities are done by the team. In spite of the fact that the agile PO organizes the product build-up amid the sprint arranging meeting, the group chooses the measure of work they trust they can do amid every sprint, and what number of sprints will be required.
The product owner's job is to provide the group with a reasonable and elevating goal which is within their means and is achievable. Team members know best what they can do. Thus they select which client stories from the highest point of the product excess they can focus on conveying amid any sprint.
A good product owner knows what he wants and is very clear from the beginning. It is expected from a product owner to not throw new tasks and changes while the work is in progress. He should be well versed with what he has to ask from the team and does not alter his requirements and hinder the working of the taskforce.
The product owner role requires a person with specific abilities and characteristics, including availability, business sense and communication skills. To begin with, the Scrum product owner should be accessible to his or her group. The best product owners show duty by doing whatever is important to build an ideal product – and that implies being actively engaged in with their groups. An agile PO should understand market, the client and the business keeping making sound decisions. At last, communication is a vast part of the product owner obligations. The product owner role requires working intimately with key stakeholder all through the organization and beyond, so he or she should have the capacity to communicate different messages to different people about projects at any given time.
Product Owner's Responsibilities
A product owner’s responsibilities are no less. He has to overlook not just the working of the Scrum Master and the team but also has to keep a check on the developments of the product. He simultaneously has to be aware as to the developments in the economy and the market and if his product will receive acceptance or criticism. He should be quick to analyze the situation and make necessary changes well before it is too late. His responsibilities include:
Accountable for the vision, extension and size of the product
Voice of the Stakeholders and represents the business to the world
Manages stakeholder relationships and expectations
Defines key elements of the product and success criteria to the team and scrum master
Sets the delivery schedule by managing backlog – creates and updates release plan, including prioritization
Takes advice from the group on Backlog Dependencies
Single point of contact for product ( New requirements Prioritizing backlog items)
Accountable for project achievement
Decides on the release date, budget, and contents
Accepts and Rejects work in sprint reviews
So, it is evident to say that no work can go smoothly without the clear demarcation of work between the two. It is not like the work can be managed by one individual. The job responsibilities and tasks are huge and require the skill set of two very professional people who know their work well. It is just the fact that there should be a clear and defined line between the two roles that they do not merge and create blockages for the development of the product. Creation takes the immense knowledge and good spirits of all the people involved, and if the top executives are clear and at good terms it can work wonders and that is the mark of a good organization.
When I give talks about the twelve emotional intelligence competencies, I'm often asked, "Can I get better at these competencies?"
The good news? Yes, you can improve them at any point in life. However, you need to use a different style of learning than what you used in school. To develop competency, you activate the part of the brain used for skill building, like getting better at golf or another sport. You need to have a good model, to practice, and to keep practicing.
Five Steps to Develop Emotional Intelligence Competencies
First, are you motivated? Do you really want to put in the time and effort? This matters because the brain’s emotional and social circuitry develops through the first 20 or 25 years of life. During that time, you developed habits and practiced them over and over. For example, perhaps you're not a good listener. You’ve practiced being a bad listener your whole life. To change that, first ask yourself, "Do I really care?"
Where do you want to be in five years? Will changing this help you get there? That's often very motivational. Richard Boyatzis, my colleague at Case Western University, helps his business school students improve by having them consider their vision for their life, and then work back from that vision to what can help them get there.
If you want to change, you can take the second step: get very honest feedback about your strengths and growth opportunities. Ask people whose opinions you trust, who know you well, for their input. It’s best to use a 360-degree instrument, a systematic assessment of how you act in this domain.
Richard Boyatzis and I co-designed with Korn Ferry Hay Group the Emotional and Social Competence Inventory. With the ESCI 360, you rate yourself on the twelve emotional intelligence competencies and other people rate you. You don't know who said what, but you get honest information about how others see you. Then, ask yourself, “Where would I improve the most if I could enhance one competency?” We recommend starting with one at a time.
The third step is to develop a learning plan and start practicing. If you want to become a better listener, the core of the empathy competency, your learning plan might be: whenever I have the opportunity to listen well, I'm going to put aside distractions, tech devices, other thoughts, and pay full attention to this person, listen to them fully. Then, I’ll say what I think they intended, and then say what I think.
That’s not easy. You’ve practiced being a poor listener for a lifetime. Try this. Cross your arms. It's comfortable. That's what a habit feels like. Now, cross your arms the other way, with the other arm on top. That feels a little strange. That's what it feels like at first to change a habit. You have to make an intentional effort. You need to be mindful of the opportunity to improve your listening. Follow the steps in your plan to be sure you're executing listening in a new, better way.
The fourth step is to have someone who can support you, who can help you think about how you can do it better next time. When we're under stress, time pressured, we tend to fall back on our habits. With a learning partner, coach, or support team, you can say “I was feeling time-pressed, couldn't bother listening. What could I do next time?” They can help you figure it out and see it as a learning opportunity, not a failure.
The final step is to practice at every naturally occurring opportunity. It may be at work, or at home, or somewhere else. Whenever there’s a chance to practice listening in a better way, you go through those steps. The more often you do it, the easier it gets. If you practice this way for three to six months, something will happen which is a neurological landmark. You'll perform the new habit, the basis of a better competence, as though it were second nature. You'll do it without having to think about it twice. That means the new way of doing it has become the preferred neurological pathway in your brain.
The dispute is rooted in Uber's refusal to seek a permit from the California Department of Motor Vehicles, which would allow it to test autonomous vehicles under certain conditions. Companies like Google, Tesla Motors and Mercedes-Benz have all gotten such permits.
Uber officials contend that under the letter of California law, the company does not need a permit because the motor vehicles department defines autonomous vehicles as those that drive "without the active physical control or monitoring of a natural person." Uber said its modified, self-driving Volvo XC90s require human oversight, and therefore do not fit California's definition of an autonomous vehicle.
In an official statement provided via Uber's website, Anthony Levandowski, vice president of Uber's advanced technologies group, explains in detail why the requirement to obtain a permit doesn’t apply in Uber’s case.
“It’s hard to understand why the DMV would seek to require self-driving Ubers to get permits when it accepts that Tesla’s autopilot technology does not need them,” writes Levandowski. “We asked for clarification as to specifically what is different about our tech from the DMV, but have not received it.”
Of course, this isn't the first time Uber's decided to flout laws that it felt didn't apply.
In fact, I'd argue that Uber’s actually looking for these kind of fights.
Because the company is confident that current regulations aren't only outdated, they're harmful.
For example, take a brief look at Travis Kalanick's TED talk from earlier this year. Kalanick makes a convincing argument for the value Uber provides, and it goes beyond offering convenience to those who don’t own cars.
For example, according to Kalanick:
“If you own a car,” says Kalanick, “that means 96 percent of the time your car is sitting idle. And so, up to 30 percent of our land and our space is used storing these hunks of steel. We even have skyscrapers built for cars. That's the world we live in today.”
Uber was built on the premise of convenience (“to push a button and get a ride,” in Kalanick’s words). But Uber claims that as the company has evolved, it’s already taken millions of miles off the roads, removed thousands of metric tons of CO2 from the air, and reduced the need for millions to own a car.
Regulators argue that "innovators" must still play by the rules; otherwise, safety and order are compromised. But in flouting those rules, Uber just brings more attention to its cause--or, at least, more interest from customers and investors.
It seems to be working for now, with the ride-sharing company recently valued at over $60 billion.
But is Uber moving too fast for its own good? Will regulators succeed in popping Uber’s bubble, possibly paving the way for competitors?
Or will the momentum behind Uber’s tsunami of change prove unstoppable?

Emirates aircraft crash lands in Dubai Airport
All operations at Dubai international airport have been suspended after a plane carrying 300 people crash-landed then caught fire, sending black smoke billowing from its fuselage.
The Emirates Boeing 777 was travelling from Thiruvananthapuram in India when it was involved in an “incident” on Wednesday at 12.45pm local time (09.52am BST), the airline said. The government of Dubai said all 282 passengers and 18 crew on board flight EK521 had been evacuated safely and no injuries had been reported.
Authorities have not given any details on the cause of the crash.
The plane has been in service for 13 years, according to the Flightradar 24 website.
