Aircraft used for transportation of medically unfit people may be in an emergency or non-emergency situation is called as an air ambulance. Also, careful evaluation and plan to fly a patient from far off places is very important both in case of fixed wing and rotor air vehicles, consideration of the total weight is significant as some aircraft may have a single engine or multiple engines. Helicopters typically have either 1 or 2 engines. The helicopters with two engines can carry more people and travel at faster speeds. Having said that air transportation mode is a better option for transporting critical trauma patients because they are more effective in decreasing the time of transport to a trauma hospital.
